Warden's Report

Spring has sprung, …finally!

There are numerous items to talk about, from the Piano fund to the inside painting of church house, but first we would like to thank Jack & Jeanne for hosting a wonderful Lenten luncheon and talk on April 12 at church house. As a result of the lunch and book discussion, we thought we would like to try having a Bible study get together, say once a month. We could bring a bag lunch and discuss what ever was on your mind, whether it was last Sunday’s scripture readings or something you read and would like to bring up for discussion. If you are interested, please call Jack or Dereck.

* Coming up really soon is the “Nu-to-You” WA sale at church house on Tuesday, May 2nd, starting at 10 am. There will be refreshments…coffee and muffins!

* May 5, 6 & 7 is our B.C. Diocese Annual Synod meeting with Rob & Ellen and Lorna in attendance.

* The Music & Worship Committee has raised $3,570 - as of April 16th - for the Piano Fund. This fund is for the purchase of a new electric piano for the Church. They are getting very close to their goal of $5,000. Thank-you to the Committee and to all the donors.

* We are looking for volunteers to help with the inside painting of church house (the meeting area and kitchen only). It may take four consecutive days to do it all, from painting to clean up. If we have the volunteers, it may be scheduled for the end of May, after the long weekend If you would like do some painting, please call Ed or Jeannine Merinuk at 539-9998.

* The Church Fair is July 15th this year with the theme being “Mad Hatter”, and as always we depend on everyone to lend a hand. It is our only major fund raiser for the Church. Thanks to everyone in the past who has made this Fair a growing success, we need you again – please call Pat Gasston at 539-5519. Diane Rosenberg is in charge of this year’s Silent Auction. Please contact Diane to donate items (539-5079). Thank-you.

* The daffodils are lovely as well as the new plants around the front door of the Church – to beautify the space where the old tree used to be. Thanks to John Larsen for his work, and to those who donated the bulbs and shrubs. As soon as it warms up a bit more, Jack will be busy with planting new plants in the Memorial garden – weekly work bees to start soon. Please contact Jack if you would to help out with some gardening.

* And thanks to the “Gardening Crew” for making the church grounds look so good. The gardening crew meets Thursday mornings at church house. Contact John Larsen or just drop in – your help is always appreciated.

* Lastly, the Taize service which was cancelled in April will be rescheduled for this Fall.

Treasurer's Report

** As of the March 31st financial statements, total receipts totaled $11,836 (including donations of $1,600 to the Piano fund) and total disbursements totaled $14,893 with an excess of disbursements over receipts of ($3,057) which is slightly better than the budget forecast of ($5,316) for this period. Receipted donations are below budget by approximately $650. Donations to the Primate World Relief Development Fund are also below budget by approximately $100.

Donations to the Residential Schools Settlement Fund are also below budget by $250. As of March 31st, we have contributed $3,600 of our $6,018 commitment. The April issue of the Anglican Journal reported that the Anglican Church of Canada’s (proposed) revised residential schools agreement with the federal government will reduce the financial commitments of General Synod and the diocese by almost 40 percent. This revised agreement was to be submitted to the new federal cabinet for approval on March 31. Once a diocese has reached 60.972 percent required; then no further payments will be required. The revised agreement may not be finalized until possibly late 2006 or early 2007. We presently have $600 in the Residential Schools Settlement Fund. We will continue to draw on this reserve (6 payments until September 2006) and trust by the Fall we will have some indication from the Diocese as to the outcome of this proposed amended agreement. We may need to contribute an additional $300 to this Fund to year end.

Thank you to the Congregation and Friends of the Church for your continued financial support.
