Warden's Report

Our summertime newsletter may be a little brief, however, it's not a reflection of the hard work and long days of the dedicated volunteers who managed to succeed in yet another excellent Church Fair. See the Treasurer's report. From all accounts the children had a wonderful time from the many organized games, to cleaning out the Legion's Bun Wagon of hamburgers & hotdogs, to and including petting Joyce's baby goats ("Kids") from Meadowmist Farms. And in two consecutive years, the rains came just at the end of the Fair to help keep down the dust, but not the spirit. Thank-you to all!

Did you notice the new flowers at Lych Gate? Thanks to Marion & Ernie Worrall for brightening the gates to the Church grounds with a fresh display of colour.

Before we go too much further into this newsletter, please mark your calendar for Sunday, September 12, for our annual outdoor Church service and pot-luck picnic which will be held here at our Centennial Memorial Gardens. Service begins 10:30 am.

We are still in a 'holding-pattern' waiting for any news of the Colombian family arrival. Their home is ready for them and apart from some last minute items, we are ready to receive the family. The process of approving refugee applications through the various interviews, medical checks, and government red tape is lengthy as we are discovering. We ask for your continuing patience.

We are high-tech! Beg, borrow or ask some one who has a computer to visit our Church web site to view the virtual tours of our Church, the Church House and the Centennial Memorial Gardens. Thanks to Monica Hogg (Monica Works) who is hosting the video data files on her computer system. Also special thanks to Aaron Lagadyn from Nanaimo whose business line is producing virtual tours. He video-graphed our Church as well as other Island points of interest and provided them free-of-charge to us.

Our Church piano needs tuning. If you know of someone who would like to combine their piano tune-up on the same day, please contact Shirley Heslip @ 539-9914.

Treasurer's Report

Church Fair - Our net profit for the Church Fair was $9,930 which well exceeded our budget of $9,000. Expenses were $1,600 which was slightly less than what we spent last year. In addition to all the many volunteer hours to make this Fair a success, many also individually covered the cost of expenses which the Parish Council is very grateful. Also, a big thank-you to Tru Value for their contribution through the Community Spirit Programme coupons and for taking back the "rain drenched" unused items - it helped to keep our food costs down.

Ten percent of the Church Fair proceeds is donated to outreach programmes and to societies on the Island. This year the proceeds, of $990, were distributed to: Mayne Island Lions; The Royal Canadian Legion, Gulf Island's Branch; Mayne Island School; the Fraser Family Fund; and the Colombian Family Fund.

The Church also received a generous and gratefully appreciated donation of $3,000 from a Mayne Island resident. The Council agreed to use this donation to cover the remaining capital projects for 2004 - in particular, the new roof for Church House.

July 31st 2004 financial statements reflect total receipts of $50,703.90 and total disbursements of $35,160.10 resulting with an excess of receipts over disbursements of $15,543.80. It should be noted that total receipts & disbursements include receipts of $9,745 and disbursements of $1,154.90 which relate to the Colombian Family Fund. Receipted donations and contributions to the PWRDF are noticeably above budget and contributions to the Residential School Settlement Fund are keeping up with our monthly commitment of $100 per month.

Our expenses are keeping in-line with our budget.

Thank-you to everyone for their continued support of the Church.
