Warden’s Report

From an ambitious first quarter of capital upgrades; to the on-going preparations for the Colombian refugee family, and of Synod meetings attended by Lorna Kirby, to the planning of this year’s Church Fair, there is much to catch up with.

We begin with the latest news of the Colombian refugee family which is to say that with the work of all those many individuals who are helping with the physical preparations of the family’s soon-to-be-island-home, we are very, very grateful for your continuing assistance – our thanks to you for making this possible.  Not long ago, we wired $700 to Colombia that was used to initiate the paperwork, interviews, and medical checks; so far we have not been informed of an arrival date.

Our Treasurer’s report will also mention what has been raised for the Colombian refugee family and our continuing drive for donations or pledges to meet our obligation.  As well, Sue will discuss what was spent for the various upgrades to the Church property and what is expected to come.

Finally, please note that there is a Church Fair meeting, Monday, April 11 @ 10 am at Church House.

Treasurer’s Report

Pledges to the Colombian Refugee Family Fund as of March 31st totalled $8,295.  Disbursements totalled $969 of which $700 went to the family in Colombia to assist with processing fees, medical exam costs, etc..  We received a $603 credit on our hydro bill and a reduction in monthly installments from $192/month to $119/month.  As suspected, the invoice for insurance was $2,162, which was $262 above our budget of $1900.

Many capital projects have been completed this quarter, all below budget:

                   Cost      Budget

Driveway           $1420         $5000

N.Side Church-Paint     $  131        $  700

Stove – Church House                   $  210        $  250

Funds to cover these projects were transferred from General Funds, as approved by Council.  In light of the below budget projects, Council approved the installation of a much needed water cistern (already in place below the Church).  The budget committee had postponed this project, in lieu of the high costs of other priority projects.  However, thanks to Home Hardware and John Larsen, we were able to proceed at a cost of $1135 (original estimate was $2000).  Two capital projects remain – a new roof on Church House and the painting of the shed.

Receipted donations as well as contributions to the Primate World Relief Fund are also above budget.  Thank you to the congregation and Church supporters for their contributions.

Building & Maintenance

Denis reports that apart from a few small repairs all is OK.  If you see something that you feel needs attention, please let us know or call John Larsen @ 539-2988.

Centennial Memorial Garden

In memory of Chris Markoff, a Flowering Plum tree was planted, and a bronze plaque mounted on slate for Chris will be placed with the Plum tree.  If you would like to help to maintain the Garden, please note that the day has been changed from Tuesday to Wednesday, same time, around 9ish.  Thank-you.

Women’s Auxiliary

The next New-to-You event is scheduled for May 4th from 10am to Noon at Church house.  Free coffee & muffins will be served.  Please bring any clothes that you wish to donate to Church on Sunday May 2nd or to Church House the following day, in the afternoon.
