Warden’s Report

The beginning of another fine year on Mayne Island and according to our proposed 2004 Financial Budget which will be presented at the February 8th AGM it will be a busy year, but first some news about the Colombian family. We are very pleased to announce that sometime in late Spring or early Summer we should be receiving the family from Colombia. We have had a very difficult decision to make as we were informed in early January that the family size had increased from a mother & father and three school age children to a family of six: mother & father and four children, ranging in age from twenty-two to thirteen years old. We expressed our very deepest regret to Father Antonio, the Diocese immigration representative, that the Church and the Mayne Island community could not provide the financial or support services that will be required for this family. We were told that two other parishes in Victoria might sponsor this family. Father Antonio and Immigration Canada understood our position and have submitted to us a smaller family: a mother and her thirteen-year-old son. We are confident that all will go smoothly, committees have met and we have received some household items for the family. We are now accepting financial donations for the Colombian family. All donations over $10 will receive an income tax receipt – please be sure to mark your donation "Colombian Family". Thank-you.

The Church Fair theme this year will be Colombian!

To remind us of the Colombian families, and as a focus for our prayers on their behalf, a small Colombian flag has been placed near the front side wall niche.
