MAYNE ISLAND WILDFIRE EVACUATION EXERCISE
The Mayne Island Emergency Program is hosting a full scale
functional wildfire evacuation exercise on Saturday May
3rd from 9:00 to 12:00.
We're expecting about 200 emergency response personnel
to attend, including most of the agencies: Mayne Island
Fire Department, RCMP, BC Ambulance, BC Forest Services,
Parks Canada, Salt Spring Island Search & Rescue, Coastguard
Auxiliary, as well as a full compliment of our local team:
Emergency Operations Centre, Emergency Social Services,
Neighbourhood Program, Health Care Providers & Disaster
Communications volunteers. Volunteers from our sister islands
of Saturna, Galiano & Pender will also participate.

3rd Annual May Day Celebration.
The festivities will begin with Morris Dancing and singing,
followed by the May Pole procession to Miners Bay Park,
the crowning of the May Queen, the erection of the May Pole,
dancing, games and refreshments. Walk the labyrinth, enjoy
the sun (we hope), buy raffle tickets and win a prize for
the best May Day costume.

Eel Grass Mapping Workshop.
Get involved with this project. Leanna Boyer of SeaChange
Society will give an introductory talk followed by hands-on
experience at Miners Bay during low tide. More mapping will
take place on future dates. To learn more watch for Leanna’s

The Mayne Island Folk Club is entering it's
fourth year with a change in dates. We will now host great live
music on the THIRD Saturday of every month
The Trincomali Community Arts Council presents 1st
Thursdays
The 1st Thursday Exhibit Series at the Library is a partnership
between the Trincomali Community Arts Council on Mayne & the
Library; a series of monthly exhibits inaugurated July 2006. In
its first year the exhibit series has proven itself a happy inspiration.
An excellent exhibition opportunity for local TCAC members, it
has also provided interest for Library volunteers and patrons.
Work exhibited includes that of TCAC members as well as other
community groups.
Opening night is usually the first Thursday of every month, at
the Mayne Island Library, 7-9 PM.
Library hours are Wed. Fri. Sat. 11AM -3PM, Thurs. 7-9PM.
