Walk on an Ancient Shore -

On September 5th, join the CRD Regional Parks guest naturalist Michael Dunn to explore the ancient seabed on the way to the summit of Mt. Parke.

Bring a snack and water and wear sturdy shoes. The views are the best in the Gulf Islands. Meet at the Kim Road (off of Felix Jack) access at 1:00 in the afternoon.

The CRD classifies this event as a longer hike, having fewer interpretive stops. Trails may be uneven with steep sections.

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. All ages

Sea, Land and Time

Opening Reception

Friday, September 3, 2010 7 - 9 pm

Mayne Island Reading Centre (the Library)

Take a creative journey with Terrill Welch, British Columbia artist, photographer and writer, as she expresses island life in Sea, Land and Time. Her exhibit displays all new work showcasing the beautiful, mysterious, and rugged southwest coast of Canada. Terrill's distinctive palette, quick sure strokes, and photographic images capture forest, sandstone, sea, and sky reminding us that there is only one moment -this one.

Terrill Welch's paintings and photography have been described as impressionist, intuitive and attuned to the essence or resonance of her subject.

Terrill Welch would like to thank Mayne Island Trincomali Community Arts Council for
this opportunity.

Friday September 10th

Mayne Island Music Society
presents Sweet Lowdown

Formed from a love of all things sweet and lowdown sounding, The Sweet Lowdown has been playing together since the spring of 2008. With a fiddle, banjo, guitar, and three voices, the youthful trio blends old time, bluegrass, and blues traditions with original songwriting to create a sound that is unique and at the same time, timeless.

Shanti Bremer began playing bluegrass banjo at age 12. In addition to The Sweet Lowdown, she currently plays with Victoria bluegrass band Last Train and as a guest with the Rock Island Ramblers.

Amanda Blied brings a unique voice to old time music, loves the bluesy side of bluegrass and keeps busy writing original songs. Amanda is a former member of Victoria a capella women's choir, the Balkan Babes.

Miriam Sonstenes is a classically trained violinist, who currently plays with Victoria bands Flash in the Pan and Sweet Ginger as well as with Sweet Lowdown.

The Trincomali Community Arts Council presents 1st Thursdays

The 1st Thursday Exhibit Series at the Library is a partnership between the Trincomali Community Arts Council on Mayne & the Library; a series of monthly exhibits inaugurated July 2006. In its first year the exhibit series has proven itself a happy inspiration. An excellent exhibition opportunity for local TCAC members, it has also provided interest for Library volunteers and patrons. Work exhibited includes that of TCAC members as well as other community groups.

Opening night is usually the first Thursday of every month, at the Mayne Island Library, 7-9 PM.

Library hours are Wed. Fri. Sat. 11AM -3PM, Thurs. 7-9PM.

Look for our monthly posters on all the best billboards of Mayne.

Mayne Island Music Society - conducts, on average, six events each year.

  • bringing quality live music to Mayne Island

  • providing performance opportunities for local musicians

  • supporting local musical education.
